How much will stock spring hold on direct compression??
« on: April 01, 2010, 10:57:28 AM »
Hey all. I'm trying to find out how much a stock 660 or 700 shock/spring combo will hold up in direct compression? Our atv's weight will not work well because of the fulcrum setup our quads use. I working on a project they may work for but they need to hold up a snowmobile with 300lb rider and another 200-300 lbs of equipment. I'd like to do it in 4 shocks, but could use 8 if I had too. Thinking of stock quad shocks because they are cheap. Thanks!

There should be a spring rate and designation printed on the spring which can be cross referenced if you have the right chart for Kayaba or showa shocks ( I think the 700 uses showa and the 660 had kayaba but I'm not 100% sure on that).  If there is not I would contact a company that re-builds OEM shocks as they would know the rating of the OEM springs.
