rear axle collar question

today I was inspecting my quad and noticed that the COLLAR SPROCKET of the rear AXLE had a good freeplay. should I pay much attention to this? ???

may quad has 200hours...

are you talking about the thing that the sprocket bolts onto?

Are you running stock axle or an after market one? Sounds like the teeth on one or both are screwed up. If teeth are messed up on the axle... Only way to fix is a new axle.

if your sprocket hub wiggles on the axle, it is loose for some reason. Krandall is prabably right. YOu have splines chewed up and has free play. New axle is only cure. SLight chance splines on sprocket hub are bad.

I don't know if it is a bad thing or not, but my sprocket hub would get a little play in it and I would just loosen the allen lock screw on the axle nut and tighten the axle nut a bit, just to where there was no more play in the hub, then tighten the allen set screw back up.  I have done this a couple of times. Bearings still seem ok in the carrier, but I am not sure how long they will last with the thing being tightened up more than what it calls for.

I thought that the axle is stronger than the hub... ???
