YFZ450 Front Shocks on a 660??
« on: March 22, 2009, 03:38:21 PM »
Will they work? I'd assume it would be a descent upgrade if it would...

Yes, very common upgrade. You have to do some grinding to gain clearance, but pretty easy.

You will loose an inch of travel with yfz shocks the 700's with resivoirs are supposed to be the same length as the 660's.

Eye to eye the YFZ shock is actually a bit longer (just shy of 1/2 inch by my measurements) than the 660 OEM shock (without weight), at least the 06 and earlier shocks.  Don't know about the hi/lo speed compression shocks.  So I guess I don't see where you're losing travel.

Well I stand corrected. I just went out and measured my stock 660 and my stock 06 yfz shocks and you are correct. I get the same measurement on both 15 1/2 inches. Guess I was going off what people have said about the yfz shocks lowering the raptor an inch and the shocks from my standard travel +2 a arms which measure 16 1/4, but after further inspection have the same amount of rod showing, roughly 5 inches , which is the same as the stock shocks so this should give the same amount of travel, I did not check the collapsed length, maybe some other time.
Man I hate it when I'm wrong I usally research better than this, before I post. I dont like putting out wrong information.

I know for the 700's from experience that they are dropped 1-1.5 inches.

I think you will find that this is to do with spring preload.
Bear in mind that the 450 is about 20kg or 45lb lighter.

ok i found my answer on another site,   the 09's are longer and wider and will work only if you put LT arms on or if you move the mount on the stock arms  they are approx.   2 inches longer than the 08's and prior

in case anybody else has the question

Cool, I didn't know they were longer, just thought they were better.

That's for the YFZ450R, the regular yfz still uses the old shocks.
