Hard to believe the 454SS only produced 230 hp (today's GM truck is producing 315 hp with a small block) and 385 lbs of torque then. Of course, you can get a lot more than that out of the motor easy.

I'm suprised GM hasn't bumped the horsepower to exceed Dodge's 390 hp on the 5.7L Hemi.

That motor is a stout motor. It produces a lot more power than the old Vortec V6.

Sure.

You get it to flow, and the motor produces awesome power. Big blocks rock.

I'd love to get a 454SS and drop in a new ZZ572.

GM has maintained their slight lead...the 6.2L that made it's first appearance in the 2007 Sierra Denali makes 403 hp.  I think that you can get that engine in the Chevy's now too.

I have always been a GM fan, but I must say the 2009 Dodge truck is the sweetest truck Dodge has ever built. It rides like a GM product, has plenty of power with the Hemi, and the interior (especially the new seats) is just awesome.

The Vortec 6.0L (367 hp @ 5600 rpm, 375 lb-ft of torque @ 4300 rpm) is the largest engine available for extended cab model trucks, and the 6.2L Engine is available on crew cab models (403 hp @ 5700 rpm, 417 lb-ft of torque @ 4300 rpm). The 6.2L is a solid engine.
