Lake George AMA nationals.
« on: February 19, 2009, 05:11:00 PM »
At the last minute my nephew talked me into heading for the ice races last weekend. I had never run on the ice but I brought the raptor to run in the unstudded class just for shits and giggles anyways. I ran in the TT division on Saturday and pulled a fourth place in my heat race and second place in the finals. I didn’t think that was to bad the guys that beat me had lowering kits and ice tiers. I’m running bone stock.
Sunday I decided to run the oval division. I had a good race for the flag to get a second place start in my heat race. In the finals I got a bad run off the line and came out of turn two in last place. By lap three the rappy just outshined the competition and had me running down the leader on a 400ex coming across the line. Coming down the back stretch  he had nothing for the gray girl and I had him by four bike lengths coming out of turn four.  The last lap was nothing but a victory lap for the raptor and I took my first checkered by better then half a lap.

awesome, I dig how you phrased the win.

The last lap was nothing but a victory lap for the raptor and I took my first checkered by better then half a lap.

Thanks. Studding it and running the local races was the plan this winter but all the local winter carnivals canceled their quad races. We traveled two hundred miles for this one.
I’ll tell you this though if you ever go to a AMA sanctioned points race you better bring more then just studs and balls. These guy’s take their ice racing serious.  My nephew found out the hard way and had his ass handed to him. Most of the winners where modded to the max and dropped so low they were bouncing their skid plates off the ice.

From my perspective it was. The races fell right at the beginning of a little warm spell. It was about 40-45 during the day with the sun shining and no wind. For around these parts that is considered warm for mid February.

I am headed to Lake George for a work conference that I can extend for a bike weekend.  Any suggestions for routes or organized rides?
