Title: Learning more about us
Post by: Krandall on January 30, 2017, 09:10:36 AM
OSHT WADDUP. ITS YA BOI!!!
 :conceit:

Over the next... Months? We'll see how long I keep it going..

Just something to learn a bit more about everyone that's still active.
(aka: Peelz, Heferlumps, and myself. )

Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest?

Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest?

I've changed mine a bunch of times in my head. If I had the choice to pick anyone in the world.. If you asked me maybe 3 years ago, it was no question Kevin Rose. Founder of Digg.com and ran a weekly podcast called "Diggnation" super tech entrepreneur worked for google for a while as well.. Very tech saavy. Today though, I'd pick Elon Musk. Don't worry hefer. he has no sex appeal
The guys brain truly intrigues me.. The amount of stuff he's done in his lifetime is mind boggling. I'd be content with doing 1/100th of what he has done. SpaceX, to Tesla, to his new testing of HyperLoop stuff. There aren't many generations that get to experience a true genius, I'm thankful to be alive to get to witness some of his great feats. :)

I think that's enough to start :)
Happy Monday <3

I'm gonna have to stew on this

Elon would be awesome..
but I think I'd like to have someone funny
like make me laugh as hard as I did at the SL Rally..
I'm not sure I have EVER laughed that hard before or after..
gonna have to stew ... ???
Title: Re: Learning more about us
Post by: Peelz on January 30, 2017, 09:39:16 AM
has to be someone funny. Answer for me, easy. Mel Brooks. guys a Jewish war veteran, and still manages to be funnier than everyone else..... couple others No longer with us... George Carlin would be fantastic, but would be just him telling me things I already think.  Gene Wilder.....

A More current answer. Lewis Black. he is me, had I been Jewish, and done more drugs.  his comedy is outstanding.

Love me some Elon Musk, but, I can listen to his speeches any time I want. socially, hes awkward as ferk LOL.

I'm with Heffer. Can't i just pick you guys as my dinner dates?  I was in a good mood for months after that silver lake rally. still am when I think about it.....

If I dined with Elon, I would feel so unworthy.. undeserving??
the guy is maybe (most likely) the best brain of this generation
his interviews are great!

I've met plenty of famous people..
one the most surprisingly NOT what I expected... Gene Simmons , I know... really... :"the demon"
the guy is CRAZY smart!
we actually talked for a good 10 minutes!
then I got escorted away...
the guard went after someone else... so I slipped back in and sat down with Eric Singer (the drummer)
super nice guy! he gave me a bottle of water

at the moment, I'm thinking Chip Foose
I had the opportunity to meet him, but I would LOVE to sit with him and talk about his childhood, and growing up around cars and his dad... and working for Boyd Coddington...
the guy is just simply amazing
it's nice to see someone doing what they truly love

this is a tough question
Title: Re: Learning more about us
Post by: Peelz on January 30, 2017, 10:43:28 AM
Foose is a good one.

youre right this is sorta tough.

Theres an English football coach I might enjoy talking to. Sir Alex Ferguson. or "ole whiskey nose" He's a Scotsman.  25 yrs in charge of his team. Drinks whiskey like a fish drinks water...  Recently Retired, but still goes to every game. didn't matter how famous a player was, you did your job or you can GTFO.  Famously remembered HERE, as the coach who fostered David Beckham from childhood. Finally letting him go because he was "too big for his boots"

My favorite motivational speech of his,  he points at the sky, at a formation of geese... "see those geese flying in a V? you think the goose in the back of the V is wanking because hes not in the lead?! no hes shutting his bloody mouth and flapping his f**King wings, because thats his job, just waiting for HIS time in the lead"

so good and relevant.

A kid (Think he's 19 now...) from our area, he was a commoner at our car show has met foose personally I can't even count how many times. Basically going to be a world wide known pin stripe artist. Name is Monte Roach. The kid is fukn GOOOOOD, Hung with Foose, the Maguire family(car care products). Pretty cool to see him continue to only get bigger.

sort of feel like this is elaborate data mining.

Elaborate data-mining.
Naw, Just bored and thought I'd like to know more about you b*tches. So... :conceit:

deal with it.

I agree, I have no interest in being famous. I was always worried with my ex-wife that if she ever made it "big" in the movie business that I'd have to go to those events or whatever and be in front of a bunch of people.. I'm happy being home and doing my thing. lol
RaptorSource kind of felt like "" fame for me. Going to the rallies and everyone knowing who I was.. It was interesting lol
Now if I had to pick my "" fame, it'd be for streaming games. I don't have much of a presence however to make it there.. But man alive that'd be fun to get paid to do that. :)

good one.

woke up early by a BJ. everything after that is immaterial.

really...

My perfect day(easily doable), I suppose would be any day I head home from a Motorcycle ride, or other adventure..visiting Heffer or otherwise. Just me and the bike. no fuss. At the end of it, I get home and see wifey and kidlets. I love the adventure, and being out on the road. But theres nothing like getting home.....so  they day I have both...

2nd. on a Free beach in Nassau Bahamas. There's a tiny cheeseburger stand, that served cold local beer...3 for 5 bucks. Water was calm and clear blue... kids snorkeling, renting kayaks....jumping off an old dock into the ocean.... then Kids and I playing beach soccer with locals. Wife and my mom getting lit on margaritas, laying out in the sun and reading....  That day was pretty perfect. it was the least stressed day Iv'e experienced as an adult.... not having to give SINGLE fuk. food ready for you on the cruise ship when you get back. I remember having to take a shower before dinner as the most stressful part of that day, i just wanted to lay in bed and not do shit.

Mine would have to be traveling with the wife ... she is a great travel companion..
much like Peels... no fuks to give.... just relaxing, seeing shit I've never seen before.. . people watching.. eating good foods

the perfect "imaginary" day would be the day Spencer gets cured... but.. ya know..

;) my friend...... id throw that into my own perfect day, and make it even more "perfecter"

and love just traveling with no itinerary.....

in about two weeks, looks like we're doing just that. We didn't plan a big Vaca this year...So just heading South and east. Either towards the gulf or maybe Grand Canyon.... then.... whatever we see, we see. Wife and I realizing we miss that about ourselves..it used to be so fun, and that kinda went away(not grudgingly of course) when the kids came.... you know. friday after work, print out your mapquest directions-lmao dont miss that! jump in the car drive all night. ferk it. She was all worried about hotels...and worried if the Vaca will be good for the kids.  i'm like nah we got a travel agent in our pockets. lets just go and make our own fun. trying to get her to let go of a lil' stress.  plus.. I enjoy driving(as long as I get sleep lol right randy?)

A perfect day 3 months ago looks a lot different than it does today. I don't quite have an idea of what a perfect day looks like at this point with this life change
So.. I'll go with what I know 2.5 months in :)

A perfect day for me would be.. Getting up early before the kiddo/nicole wake up. Getting an hour or so on Overwatch, hearing Nicole wake up feeding the kiddo on the couch. We decide to load up the stroller and head to state park not to far from our place and walk around the path along the river. Cap it off with a nice little pic-nic lunch  and maybe an ice cold beer. Or maybe headed camping with a fuss-free child where we can explore :)

 kids can FERK up perfectly laid plans!
funny though.. when it's all over... the part the kid messed up usually contains the memories!

we rented a house (air bnb) this past summer/fall .. took the dune buggies, all 3 kids... cruised the shore line in Traverse city...
has to be the prettiest place in MI... just breathtaking views.. toured lighthouse, peninsula, beaches... blue water... just amazeballs!
forgot to feed Spencer... he has ZERO tolerance for being hungry... FLIPPED SHIT!

perfect trip till then!

but still once a month or so... he grabs my arm... and says "vacation house"... (that's what we told him when we went... we are renting a Vacation house)
so... he must have liked it  :2thumbs:

I sing to Starla all the time... she likes "Nothing compares to you" by Sinead Oconnor ..

 Warning - while you were typing a new reply has been posted. You may wish to review your post.

For me, It's nearly every morning. I cannot go a car ride solo without music, I'll typically find myself singing too!
Singing to someone else.. This one is a more rare thing for me to be spotted doing. Nicole has tried to get me to do Karaoke before... Definitely not my jam, not enough alcohol in the world to do that.. The last time I remember singing to someone else would be... Appx 5 years ago(soon after either the divorce or her stating she's leaving) on my Bleed Geek podcast. I ended up drinking a shit-ton and ended up singing Bohemian Rhapsody to anyone that was listening/live.. Apparently pealer was still listening/watching

not into karaoke? holy shit are you sure were not related. i HATE it. even if its good. nope. Will never do it. IF a bar is having it, we do not go to it.   on rare occasions I will sing. maybe fartin around on the guitar.... but never in a "hey listen to this" setting.

LOL at that memory Rando. still one of the happiest/saddest moments :) much feelz for you at that moment. but what a fantastic way to deal with it.

funny you mention that. the other day. We were int he car....Was askin aidan what music hes getting into. He said he likes panic!at the disco. so we streamed some. Good  rock music. and We found out they did a solid bohemian rhapsody cover. so then, we forced the kids to listen to the orig. full blast  Its very difficult to at least sing SOME of that. like seriously. even stone cold sober.  specifically at the tempo change. "i see a little silhouette-a of a man...."  Me and the Mrs. FULL on "driving Garths pacer through Aurora" scene. headbangin' and all. LOL Aidan was mortified. We wont be able to hit the theatre for the Waynes world thing. Only showing it once and weird time. (LAME) so we forced them to watch it that night.

then Colin showed us this one this morning... the first song, is HIS favorite song. sings it forward and back. "Closer"

adults try not to sing along challenge:

if you have the 30 yr old body the weenis would likely work.

then you could stick it in whatever you wanted, and not worry about it, because you dont have to remember. no mind=no fuks

that being said. cracking jokes and all....  loss of mind is one of my biggest fears. leaving my loved ones to take care of a zombie scares me. and the way my brain already works, its a legitimate fear for me  :(

Any hunch or thoughts on how you'll end up kicking the bucket?

Especially after my dad had his thing with cancer, it made me think about it a little more. I don't really like to think about it though.. kind of like getting old. Don't even bother thinking about it, does no good. Just trying to live life. :)

I don't really know how I'll go, I hope however it is, its quick though. Hopefully doing something cool at least!

Man, I LOVE Arby's... I think I've been there once in the last 3 years haha. Man, they had the sandwhich big montana or somethin. a monster sammy PILED with roast beef. then gimme some of dem curly fries fukn GAME ON.
Yea, this whole dad life/experience is fuking with my brain. I won't lie, at first, I wasn't really "connected" to the kid. Felt kind of weird. The more he gets "social" the more and more I'm getting sucked in. It's been an interesting challenge that's for sure. Literally everything has changed in nearly every aspect O__O

holy crap....

THAT'S a loaded question

Dad moved away at 10 years old.. Brother splattered on a road at 17 (he was 20)
mom never there... Drunk and fucking anyone she could..
forced to raise my other brother on my own (older brother was in foster care most of his teens)
massive court troubles
drugs
Juvenile Detention 2 times
years of Probation
Foster home
married young..
I'm sure I'm forgetting some stuff

BUT....
everything that happens to us makes us who we are today
and overall, I like who I am... so...
probably not

YUSS!

Warning - while you were typing a new reply has been posted. You may wish to review your post.

Wife and I discuss this one A LOT. The tiniest things can cause BIG effects later in life.... she had difficult life, and has a lot she would change. but me, mine was pretty good. Grew up in the tech boom mecca...bigger city.  AND regularly experienced the wide open country.... but... it was like TOO good. not complaining here. i loved my childhood. but I could have REALLY used a more focused understanding of hard work... Financial Responsibility....I'm too laid back. Is that nature, or nurture...? who knows?

the actual thing we discuss, after arguing... or being annoyed by each other... If any of that stuff changed, Would we be US and even compatible AT ALL? its unlikely.

I can be a lazy, cheap, broke, unfocused, and unorganized hot mess, if left COMPLETELY to my own devices. Like leave shit laying around.. never put it away. My toolbox is a travesty. But i'm supremely patient with other humans. (to a fault) wife and I are polar opposite in those respects.

heffer. i have a hug for you.  ;) (really not filthy-wise lol) bothers me, even though you're a grown adult, hearing about you living that way as a child -it pisses me off. LOL I go through the same thing with Nichole. Shell tell me about when her aunt and uncle locked her outside the house so they could get high...not going out to eat with her mom and stepdad, because his mom thought she wasnt good enough..   i picture the child she WAS  dealing with that. get sad... I'm way too empathetic sometimes. When I come across a person that is obnoxious, or just plain ignorant. I usually think "man, dafuk happened to that person to ferk em up?" rather than the more healthy "ferk that POS"

I have a strong respect for folks who deal with whacked out families, who end up well adjusted, respectful people.

if I could pick one thing out from your post....

Forced to raise my other brother on my own

bet that sucked. But I would put money on that being one of the bigger reasons you are who are you are - the good parts. Business owner... respectful... good dad

ok gettin too emotional up in here.

so just like you said. would I change it? NAH. don't think so.

i could talk about this one all day.

hey....thank you.  ;) NOW, yes. But hearing the stuff you dealt with, and the Mrs dealt with in CHILDHOOD.. and Knowing my personality of passive aggressiveness, I'm not sure I would have "risen up" THEN.. but. We'll never know. its a curiosity I have about myself. and part of my original answer to the question. I feel like I was sheltered a bit, could have used a little more BALANCE(exposure to REAL problems sooner)

again, not a complaint. its sort of like, say you have a bolt to remove, the best tool would obviously be a ratchet. But I only was given a Crescent wrench. Ill still get it, but itll be a bitch.

Typing this before I read your guys responses. I go back and forth on this. Overall, how I was raised I feel was pretty good. My dad ruled our house with an iron fist. If we got in trouble, I FEARED going home to him. We didn't get beat or anything like that.. He just put the fear of GERD into us. :help: Overall, how I was raised definitely made me who I am today. Would I change anything? Probably the only thing I wish was different was, we're not close with my dads extended family.. When we were younger, they were all BIG drinkers and smokers. My dad wanted nothing of that and kind of kept us shielded from it(Not a bad thing, right?) Fast forward 20 years now... I have no care or interest at all in that part of the family. I know I should but.. I just don't care. Both my uncle and aunt passed away semi-recently and I didn't really show much from it. Which just feels weird. My cousins asked me if I'd carry the urn for them, I said sure but.. Just because I didn't want to say no. It just feels weird to see people have close connections to their extended families all over but I'm jsut here like  wasting my time lol.

So. Back to the question. Would I change anything? I'll go with no. My parents were hard-asses on me. Maybe ask me 20 years ago and I'd say YES I'd change how much they sucked. But... hindsight is definitely 20/20
I think I turned out alright. I may care a bit too much for my cars. I may like things done a certain way because any other way it's done is wrong.  I may not know how to apologize after being a fuk. I may be a little un-apathetic at times because I let my ego get the best of me.. In the end, I am who I am. If you don't like it you can go on and get the fuk out.

Man, I feared my dad.. I can specifically remember one instance where I was sitting at the kitchen table and he was helping me with spelling(problem 1... dad helping with homework...).
I can remember sitting at the table crying. He was yelling at me to spell a word.. I spelled it. Nope, wrong. He yells louder.. I try spelling it again.. wrong. something "clicked" and I got it right, he's just like.. "there you go" in the calmest voice ever. Just like.. DAFUQ

man... THAT's some white people problems there!!!

we actually had a bit of a problem with dad hitting a bit too hard...
I guess that was the "good part" of him moving out
mom and dad would fight about that.. we were too young to be beaten like that
we had some bruises sometimes... not cool
one particular day I learned the meaning of the word "Interrupt" ... by the method of the back of his and in my face!

HOLY SHIT.

my dad was a damned math savant. thus his role in developing the touch controls on microwaves. next time you nuke something think of him. LOL but, he had ZERO patience for not learning math fast. Long division and fractions were a nightmare for me. LOL same thing. sobbing. called me a "titty baby" once.  Ill be honest here.... id give all I have to to do it again! then say thanks, Dad. You can tell by my siblings and I, he stopped caring. Pretty tough on me as the oldest. were 5  yrs apart, he was 40+ when bro was  born.  then sheltered the shit outta him, now basically helpless. Sis is in the middle. hot mess but responsible.

with you on your earlier post. not much interaction with extended family.... then I met my wifes fam, who are ALL Drinkers. and have serious demons. BUT they all get together, party...have a good time.. strange to me, though I have a jealousy to it.

I have one other tough but life building experience that was a lesson. My Uncle, from iowa. a poor farmer. I would love to come visit here back then, play on the farm. then one year, I was 10 or 11, they had me stay with them and work for a few weeks. baled hay. fed cattle...mowed... my hands hurt like CRAZY -he was MEAN. kept saying I had "city hands" and calling me a "city boy" honestly,  I think my dad and him orchestrated it for the lesson. it was miserable. but im glad they did it. oh they had NOTHING fun to do. no tv, no atari. nothing. LOL

IId bet $ if that was done just to keep your lil asses busy, because you couldn't do real work yet.

see, I wonder...my dad was raised in a TINY house on a farm not far from here, shared a room with 5 kids. their life was HARD. I remember him telling me his dog got pregnant, he was 7. and his dad shot the dog in the head right in front of him.... not something they could afford. responsible, yet terrifying to me. i often wondered, most of my life, he spent trying to protect us from that. then later realizing... oops we did a lil too much protectin'. then we moved to Iowa.... and i felt a LITTLE more balance. but still..... i'm a city fuk at heart most of the time. all that time you spent picking up rocks in a field, I spent taking city buses across town, then the BART subway into san francisco to ride skateboards. or sneaking into private swimming pools.

I find myself questioning that "sheltering" with my older son right now. but I don't have a script to work from, because I was sheltered from it. so I worrythat he will be a "millennial" so many like to bitch about and it freaks me out.

realistic ability: "real world"  marketable computer skills.

quality: risk taker, less passive, more direct. not "wish wash" as you so frequently like to say

also, want to add to earlier statement about "rock picking" I have to apologize-it seems my comment about that being just a way to keep kids from annoying parents was way off base. Nichole spent a lot of her childhood doing just that

Ability: The ability to take in knowledge and actually retain all of it instead of bits and pieces.
Quality: It would be figuring out how to be more patient. I have a tendency that when someone starts raising their voice while in conversation with me or clear frustration not even necessarily at me.. I go from 0 to 7 instantly.. if they keep getting worse I do as well.. I find it gets me in trouble.. Problem is, I'm unable to recognize I'm doing it when it happens until it's too late.

If hefe gets to use a hypothetical, I'm going to as well..
I'd choose teleportation. Let me teleport anywhere anytime with anyone I choose.

If you knew that in one year you would die suddenly, would you change anything about the way you are now living?
Why?

Since I'm the sole income, I'd probably have to sit down with Nicole and a Financial Advisor to best plan out how to help Nicole/Kelvin for the next 18 years at least. Once all of that has been taken care of. I'd most likely quit work and try to travel on the cheap and experience life with the wife and kiddo. Take as much as I can in and try to spend time with everyone in my life who means something to me.

I find that REALLY weird. strange thing for a suicidal person. Or...bomber...kamikaze..whatever.

good call on setting up your fam. (that's a change thats noticeable) Randy, circa 2009. or after ex's nonsense, would have said "buy cars"

I often wonder about your question, when I think of  apocalypse scenarios. Specifically, the meteor.  What would I do.... drive right towards that bitch. I don't wanna be around in the aftermath. Humans suck.

I have a fairly sizeable ins policy, Spencer, Starla and Spencer's mom would be ok

I probably wouldn't drink anymore than I do now, I don't like the way I feel after.. juice isn't worth the squeeze for me
and the truth is ... I probably wouldn't smoke... except a high-end Cigar or 2... again.. I'd want to feel good as long as I can.. thus being able to do more

For me, It'd be a scrapbook style photo-album my mom made for me that's from ages like 4-18.  But I'm going back and forth on it.
It'd be that or my PC. (I really only need the HDDs) but.. I'd probably go for the whole PC. I have a lot of pictures that are on there (backed up on drives inside said PC). I really need to look into Carbonite again. In the event something happens.

Social Media ???

nah I expected "sports" outta you.  ;) because, Even raptorsource, whether you like it or not, is a form of social media. Just carefully crafted-no fluff.  ;)

for me, theres a couple:

-Competitive fighting. i have ZERO interest in it. Feel awkward watching it...do not understand it one bit. ESPECIALLY women fighting. Whenever I see people cheering, arguing about this, in my head, I picture the roman colloseum and cheering while watching people die horrid deaths.

-religion. belief or faith doesn't work for me. Truthfully, I wish it would sometimes. But I find it closes my mind, and I'm unable to do that...so I don't get it. but i GET it.

-tattoos. Iv'e tried REAL hard, multiple times, to find a reason to get one to be part of this exploding fad. i still cannot.  piercings all ovah the place fit here too. I feel like a non-"star bellied sneech" everywhere I go.

-killing animals as trophies.

http://www.cracked.com/blog/6-ways-big-cities-turn-you-liberal-converts-perspective/

that seemed pretty anti big city.   which I am not. If you gotta live there, its cool. do it. At some point recently, the term "liberal" has now come to be a synonym of  "compassionate" and I have much trouble considering that a negative. I find myself ALWAYS trying to see other viewpoints.

The way I always saw it-living in a metro area, you are confronted by other human beings nonstop. And, in order to survive, civilly, and coexist, you must empathize. "walk a mile in another mans shoes"  folks in the country really don't have to do this much, because they dont ever see folks regularly doing anything different from them, therefore, never have to question their own lifestyle. they go visit a city, and get all pissy. Personally, and to comment on the first topic in your link... I think ALL driving education should be done in that environment. LOL so many people from out here, go into city, scared of driving.... ugh.

all things tradeoff I guess.

its funny, Mom sent me a Vid of the area I grew up in San Jose FLOODING this morning. spent some time looking at the Map of Silicon Valley. where i rode my bike and all that... it seemed like I went EVERYWHERE as a kid. just because of how compact things are.  looking back, im thinking of telling my mom she didnt watch me very well LOL  Airport to watch planes...rode bikes to Ataris headquarters. SO much to do, and see. Then we had to ride our bikes for at least an hour to get to a place where you wouldn't see/hear other humans.

Move to Iowa, we had 17 acres. want that same thing....just walk outside.

Both those lifestyles shaped me. and to consider either of them wrong, or one better than the other, just doesnt compute for me. I know I prefer the country mostly...but damn its sure cool to visit the city.  And I loved my childhood.

neither lifestyle is really tenable without the other. cities need country for natural resources. Country needs city for finance, tech, healthcare...among other things

I can agree on all of them .. even the trophy hunting thing.. I think it's just douchy

if you kill it... eat it!

I am WAY more likely (back when I hunted) to kill a big juicy Doe over a mediocre buck anyday!
now.. if I were hunting and a GIANT Buck walked out... oh... hells yea... and I would absolutely have it mounted
but he would still be eaten
but... lets be honest.. I haven't hunted in years

sports...
I find it sad... I understand it... it's just sad..
You were a stud in high-school when you played... now you relive your "glory days" every Sunday watching others do it... move on "Uncle Rico"

Religion,
yea... some people need something to hold on to..
a belief that shit happens for a reason..
and that we are not just rotting in the ground, but living in some magical kingdom...
that's not for me... but I GET it

Politics,
yea... I don't get people getting all worked up about it....
Gene Simmons said it best...
Shut up and do your job... and on election day... vote how you feel and move on
I don't think everyone who disagrees with my view is stupid, just un-educated on the matter
like just saying the term "gun violence" shows your ignorant, and I immediately don't hold your opinion with any value.
nobody talks about Car-violence, or beer violence... or swimming pool violence .. so.. when someone says Gun-violence it clearly shows their colors

if someone wants to talk facts, I'm all in.. but fools spouting off on FB, like they think it will change anything.. I REALLY don't get that!

Yes, I know RS is Social media
it's pretty minimal..
my confusion is people (mostly Adults) who check their facebook/twitter/snapchat/whatever trend is next ... all the time..
I understand the Dopamine effect that it creates when someone "likes" you or whatever thumbs up you get...
so a 13YO girl... it makes total sense... a 40 year old man... no... just no

Tattoos...
I have a couple..
it is what it is...
mine are both coverups of youthful mistakes..
if I could go back... yep.. I'd have none
I don't have a big problem with them.. if I did, I'd pay up and have them removed

boxing/fighting..
that falls in with every sport... meh ..
now watching Mike Tyson (back in the day) .. was a sight to see... his pure strength was insane
not something I would watch all the time... but it just shocked me to see him pummel some poor fucker!

I guess you could lump it in assault with a deadly weapon. I just think there's enough to justify a separate category defining gun/knife/bomb.

fwiw, there are terms on car violence (vehicular homicide/manslaughter) I'm not sure there's an "" alcohol term. I'd assume there is but I don't know off the top o' my head.

In Mn, if you're lucky enough to get pulled over while intoxicated, you get to have a special license plate that starts with 'W' (termed: Whiskey plates).. Allows you to be pulled over at any time without suspicion or reason.

hey a$$hole. I could have been state. watch me throw this ball over those mountains! :) I was actually never a stud. LOL shocked? Sports, if I make time to watch them, is brain-shutter-offer for me. :) dont know the last time I made it through an entire even of ANYTHING.

and to clarify. i find nothing wrong with tattoos... just not on me. its a social trend I feel left out on. Seeing two people with them meet each other, instantly have hours of stories about why they have em.... then people always asking "why dont you have any tats?" But nothing, not wife, kids soccer, motorcycles. nothing gets me goin' enough to say "HEY look at what I did to my skin" lol

Basically, never felt the need to outwardly advertise that which I feel strongly about. If you want to know, ask me. :)

I fuckin LOVE the idea of special plates!! (now ima look for those in MN next time)

you missed my term here..

"Gun Violence" is not a possibility (it's a slanted agenda driven term)
like "Muslim ban" .. it's just not accurate.. but very biased
an inanimate object is not able to commit violence
"assault with a deadly weapon" is a PERFECT definition
or vehicular homicide.. perfect... "Car violence" is just stupid

people who carryon about "gun violence" have zero credibility with me
if someone wants to talk about solutions to suicide or homicide or violent crime rates.. I'm all ears

Should there be distinction between assault with a deadly weapon and a bombing?
That's all I was saying, I think there's enough of each one to distinctly label one from the other.

or just terrorism?

Peels, living around here of course is MUCH different than living in Cali Or even where Randy lives..

but I know ALOT... and I mean... ALOT of people with guns...
but I do not know anyone who bought a gun to kill people
I'd say about 50% hunting, about 40% sport/fun and the other 10% would be self defense
local guy just held a bad guy at gun point (I think I already told the story) with a .22 lol
took the cops like 24 minutes or some shit...
such is the problems with rural life
that bad guy was lucky he broke into that house... many other homes he'd be dead!
justifiably ... but in this instance the good guy did it the right way... nobody died and that guy will spend some time behind bars, and hopefully be better for it

but to buy a gun to specifically kill someone... you've seen this?
that's some shit.... (I know it happens... but damn)

I view guns as life savers, not life takers!

Should there be distinction between assault with a deadly weapon and a bombing?
That's all I was saying, I think there's enough of each one to distinctly label one from the other.

The Whiskey plates, in my area you'll see them ALLL over. I actually followed someone who I'm 99% sure was drunk (with whiskey plates). all over the road, ended up calling that one in.

I would think... with a bomb would be domestic terrorism?
or just terrorism?

Heffer....swimming pools, cars, and beer.  those 3 things, yes they CAN kill, but nobody ever purchases any of them with the sole purpose OF doing so- but guns are purchased EXACTLY for that. thats the diff for me. PEELS:

(I know it happens... but damn)

I view guns as life savers, not life takers!

conversely, ive NEVER heard of someone buying a pool to kill someone.

hefer...how do they "save" that life? They do it by TAKING another life, or, at the very least, the threat of "taking" life dissuades the criminal from doing so, out of that fear of "mutually assured destruction"

nobody's gonna be afraid of a swimming pool(cept starla right? lol)  I mean...the guy in your story didnt reach for his fun noodle.

In my eyes, they're actually BOTH. and to consider them ONLY "savers", is to ignore their inherent design. they need to be respected, so its more difficult for wrong folks to get em. but they wont be. Reacting is WAY better than actually thinking things through these days. I'm sort of done worrying about it. Foregone conclusion, wild west here we come. guns don't worry me. MILLIONS of unchecked guns(because its our "right") DOES worry me.

;)  agree/disagree right?

I knew it was going to be a rough one. Tomorrows will be on the brighter side :)

Mine, I haven't dealt with any 'close' family deaths. Aunt and Uncle passed away but part of my dads family that I'm not really close with. It was rough watching my dad go through that. Hardest thing for me was watching my dad go through radiation/chemo/stem cell therapy. Kicking someones ass completely by poisoning them. Watching them come to basically the edge of death/energy/life. Hearing my dad say if he knew what it would be like, that he wished he wouldn't have done it. Life's a cruel bitch.

dude.

thats it. its seeing your Father who you naturally saw as your superior...protector... whatever, being vulnerable. its a weird thing.

and, hefe. you just broke me.

sad, but again, these things just make us who we are.

Related side topic: either of you guys see the tv show "this is us" if not, do it. No funnies... no weird stuff. Serious family show. its just damn good. Episode last night. Guy takes his Dad(Whom he just met, after being adopted) on a trip to memphis, where he grew up, the Dad KNOWS hes not going to make it home. Guy Watches his dad die. there's a scene where he tells him "you did alright, everythings fine don't worry about me, ill be ok" Cut me up inside. because I experienced that exact thing.  :(

Anyhoo....seriously. watch it. I swear its worth your time. ABC i think?

mine is actually just shitty...

my mom got the call that he was in an accident (riding in a pickup bed) and was in surgery (we found out later, they lie on the phone so you don't wreck yourself on the way over)
mom calls me... your brother is in the hospital... meet me there..
and since I was about 20 minutes closer, I beat her there..
the nurses after some coaxing tell me he died at the scene (massive head trauma)
they didn't want to tell me shit since I was only 17 at the time
finally Mom shows up..
she says to me.. "where is he.. still in surgery?"
I look at her... the nurses (cunts) walk away... they won't tell her shit....
mom starts panicking.... looks back to me... "tell me where he's at!!!"
me: "he didn't make it mom... " she looks confused... "he died at the scene"..
mom literally hits the ground with a thud.. sobbing...
it was the saddest thing I've ever seen...

the movie La Bamba did a good job re creating that
https://youtu.be/4fREU5a6B4Q (about 1:50 .. I cry every time )

Mom and Tom were VERY close, she was pregnant at 15 with him, so they literally grew up together...
it broke her beyond repair.. she still is messed up over it.

they wanted me to "Identify the body" I said fuckyou! .. not happening
mom finally composed herself enough to do it... and that wrecked her again...

I had to handle all the funeral arrangements.. she was unable to talk for a long time
had to take Valium to cope.. and that made her a zombie

Tom died on September 5th 1987
the funeral was September 8th 1987 (mom's 37th Birthday)
we tried to postpone, but she wouldn't let us

on a lighter note..
I have learned that death brings out the worst in MOST people
but my uncle (Mom's big brother) stepped up big time
basically moved in for a couple weeks, helped with everything he REALLY stood tall
sometimes it brings out the absolute best too!

man alive....

my hearts heavy my friend.  Certainly wasnt trying to take away from the seriousness by the "made us who we are" comment.

with you on bringing out the best AND worst.

reminds me of a story.... there is an ex Business contact of mine, who became a friend(retired now) used to work on a couple of my printers. I would call errors in late at night, expecting Next am hed show up... hed always come in, and be there ALL night. then work most of the day.... 18hr days... For years I kinda just joked with him about being a dedicated Xerox-man and he would just smile, and give a little laugh... lol ... one night I asked him why he worked so much, and truthfully, wish I wouldnt have.  Im a huge jerk.

He told me they'd lost their 16 yr old son to a drunk driver on his very first drive by himself.. the guy's wife was an almost non functional human being for awhile, he said, and became an alcoholic (treated and recovering thankfully)... And they found, that if they just sat at home, they would just drink and be sad, and take it out on each other.. "might as well get paid for feelin shitty"

was VERY happy to watch that guy walk thefuk outta here his last day... I could actually see the years of sadness and stress wash over him, then disappear into thin air, as he said goodbye to me.... hes farming full time now. well, hes driving his Rhino around and "checking fences"

amen to bringing out the best/worst in people. When my dads brother passed away, my dad stepped up big time to help my aunt get everything organized/set up. They did a huge estate sale. We put in countless hours to get everything set up, marked, categorized, and organized. Once the estate sold. My aunt basically flipped out that my dad was a worthless bum and wasn't willing to help with anything. Haven't heard from her or her family now in about 2 years   Now, my dads mom is getting up there ( pushing 80), his sister, husband, and son moved back into her house to help take care of things.. Apparently they made some comment about how they will be inheriting a quarter million dollars when she passes away... It's like.. dafuq, is that all you can think about you money grubbing slugs. I told my parents when they start getting older.. liquidate everything, travel, spend the $. My bro and I can support ourselves. Enjoy what they worked so hard to create. The fact that people have this mind-set they are owed something or are entitled to something when someone passes away is just straight ignorant.
Not sure how I ended up here on this tangent. :help:

same shit in my fam. Kookoo aunt, stealing things from the house after Grandma died while were all working

wifes family... went gaga for $.  She was raised by her grandma.... who received a settlement before she died for her AND her husband both working in the ammunition plant around hazardous stuff, and making them sick for years... they all knew about it. Some calling and asking to borrow $... Wife and I spent all our time with her in her later years. SUPER awesome lady. USed to put booze in muh coffee and not tell me lol shed Lived a seriously rough life, but youd never know it. Seriously classy lady. She made me take her to the car dealer with her, so she could buy her first BRAND new car. Then proceeded to ignore me and buy every single option... including a wing. (it was a camry lol) then I had to teach her to drive it. LOL also, FAIRLY sure shed "break" her Satellite tv on purpose, just so Id come over and hang out.... LOL

she had a spot in the will for my wife. But it wasnt fully legal. and they had her removed, because shes not one of her children. regardles of being raised by her...

anyhoo, didnt waste any time on that...we got we wanted that cant be bought. TIME.

first thing that came to mind was the first minutes of my kids lives.
at that moment I felt so vulnerable, yet empowered and I thought to myself as long as I am alive these kids will have someone looking out for them.

What is your most treasured memory?

tough one here. i have many. Ill list them and choose LOL

-Silver Lake Rally I went to.
-First time Dad took me on his Suzuki to a baseball game at Candlestick park.
-family beach day in Nassau, Bahamas
-flying in a glider.
-first paycheck
-first BJ. 8)
-boat day in ozarks. It was a weekday and  very few people out. Had rented a boat, and we anchored in a cove, middle of nowhere. Deer came to edge walked into water, drinking and staring at us Colin swam like within 5 ft of it.... THEN some military jets screamed over us. That was pretty amazing. (that's the day I decided to sell quads, and buy boat) :) give this 2nd place.
-seeing heffer after riding muh bike for 10hrs :) -not kiddin'
-riding my own ex-quad @ pismo (thanks maggy lol)

winner has to be...

-Day after Colin (2nd kid) was born. Aidan was 3, and laid next to him on hospital bed and they napped for like 2 hrs. I just sat there and stared. The world could have ended in that moment, and i'd have had ZERO f**ks to give

i could keep goin.... but...

What is your most treasured memory?

I'd have to say hearing Kelvin cry for the first time. It was all beyond surreal. Granted he was taken from us right away due to some complications. Everything became a complete whirlwind of emotions. I'm in this little back room where they are weighing him. Nurses trying to figure out why he's hyperventilating. I'm trying to keep myself composed as Nicole is being stitched back up and she's looking through this little window at me wondering where her baby is, is everything okay.. Man alive..

The many Raptor Rallies I've attended. Was always an insanely good time! MANY LOL'S.
Some memories I can think of off the top of my head from just those.
First trip: Riding I think it ended up being 13 hours one way with Nick (whom I ONLY knew from an internet persona) ended up being an AWESOME guy. I miss Nick. :( Meeting Mad Dog for the first time on his FAST 660. I remember one race specifically he was lined up to my right.. and he got in front of me and his freaking haulers just SAND BLASTED the sh*t outta me!! That's when I decided to upgrade my quad

This list could keep going on.

you know though... the two issues can be separate.  time is a big one a lot, where money doesnt matter really on a few hobbies. You can make money. but time. not so much.

In that respect probably be into guns more. PC gaming. :)  ;) for awhile I had plans to build and race a rally car. (before kids lol) some of that stuff, would still be bad as hell to do, but isn't important to dedicate a chunk of time to for me.

Flying, however, IS going to happen...just waiting for the two to get together feasibly.

i try.

but i have an announcement. I have a TON of trouble when brown and yellow are near each other.

2 yrs ago, I yanked the ABS servo out of my bike, made it traditional brakes(long over-engineered german bullshit story) but it requires a fair amount of rewiring, because all the lights went through the control module.

3 wires: brown/yellow. yellow/brown. and then just brown. that connect to 2 others green/brown, and green/yellow.

I spent at least 2  hrs figuring that shit out  connect, test, no lights. connect test no lights.... repeat 9x. :)

should probably stop giving you shit

What is the most annoying habit that other people have?

I have a few nit-pick ones but my main one would be people who use cell phones in a group setting. We have this new girl who started in our dept 100% millenial. Whenever we do group functions, she's always quiet and glued to her phone.. Not a big deal but man alive. How do you expect to get to know anyone on the team better or vise versa?

Vaping. all day long.

:puke:

really i can live with most things..

but here are some weird ones that people do that BUG me, even though they don't affect me.

going in public in Jammy pants.
wearing camo like its a style.
Woman driving while husband is in pass seat on phone. Wife and I joke hes got a DUI.
Woman pumping gas while husband sits.

yes I know sexist. dont care.

When I have to talk to someone who doesn't clean their glasses. (this one i am vocal about. even perfect strangers sometimes lol) my dad was a culprit. now my brother is following suit. every time I see him: "clean your got-damned glasses!"

with you on the phones in public setting.  ever see a couple eating, sitting across from each other, could be a romantic conversation, but they're both looking down into the blue glow....? ferkin talk to each other. drives me nuts.

chewing tobacco and spitting it into a disgusting clear bottle right in front of me. yuck.

"its ok honey, were just gonna sit down and think about what weve done...ummmkay?" think, the voice of the hippie teacher in Beavis and BUtthead. like all passive.

What do you consider to be your best find?

So.. For me it depends on if "find" = deal or "find" = something awesome.

I'll do both.

For me, my best "find" deal wise would have to be 2 summers ago, I scored a Nintendo 64 with 15 games, 5 controllers, all with memory cards and rumble packs. Two of the games are semi-rare and worth $50+ a piece. When I saw the sticker, I made an assumption that it was priced per game. I asked to clarify, lady goes "Nope, that's the price for all of it." I couldn't grab everything fast enough. Ended up with about $200 worth of N64 equipment for $2  :nana:  8)

"Find" as in something awesome. It'd have to be my Coronet and the way I came about owning it.
Was a pretty awesome feat. I had seen it on E-Bay actually and was like daaaaaaaaaaaaammmnnnn that thing is sexy ( I love 66' 4 doors). It sold for 12,500. (rust free, mini tub, 440, etc etc)
like a month later, I ended up seeing it on ebay again, price dropped to 10k relisted due to a non-payer.
Sold for 9,500k was like noice that person got a sweet deal. !!!
Fast forward another month it got listed once more. Comments in the auction, the person came to look at the car but it wasn't what they thought it was or should be. So it listed again. Price put at 10k and auction ended with no bids.
I decided to send the guy an email via ebay to see what was up. I had my Raptor and my 66' Coronet (starting to get frame rot).
My uncle had said if I ever wanted to sell the car, He'd buy it back from me (that's who I originally bought it from). So emailed the guy said hey.. I have a 66 at home. If you give me a month to sell that (and part out the raptor). I'll give you $8000 for it. Guy came back and we lined up a time to pick it up. The rest is history :)

Me, my dad, and my bro loaded up the RV and headed out to chicago with the trailer on the back!

thats cool.

mine, my bike.

late 90's BMW came out with the "Oilhead" engine. Basically, a boxer engine Aka "sideways"(which IM obsessed with) but they added oil cooling, to an already dead simple and reliable design.

Obsessed over that r1100r nekkid roadster.... saved $. waited to go order one. even got a tshirt. lol then 2002, they upgraded it to 1150. I went in, put $ on one that was coming in.

then, I lost my job 2 months later in 2002 i think?.  took my deposit back and cried like a bitch.    things got better, in 2005 I just bought a cheap yamaha.  It sucked, but at least I was on a bike....then I traded it for Yamaha FZ1(bad ass motorcycle) which I eventually, traded for the SE2. I now consider this a mistake. I loved it but I could have had the same amount of fun...with the clunky ole 660, and still hung out with you dudes....for zero dollars lol

that was 2009, i think. I could probably look through posts on here lol Went bikeless for a few years(couldn't really ride with small kids and zero time)  2013, my Buddy, who convinced me I didnt need the bike and I should get the 700 in the first place, shows up with a bike. (really?LOL)  SO i start thinking about it...but not seriously. BUT THAT DAY Nichole. shes like "why dont you get that BMW you always wanted?" then asks me what it was called, and proceeds to search the webz. Finds one, a 2002. I call the dealer. 13,000 miles. wanted 4500, I gave 3500 and had them throw in a helmet, because mine went to sh!t sitting in the garage for 4 years. it had been sittin' awhile. needed a few things.. but

at this point, it is the most rewarding personal hobby iv'e had.

possibly my 69 Camaro

bought it for $2300 (back in the 90's)
picked up a rusty impala with a big block 454, swapped that into my Camaro..
that was a solid deal..

but srsly... SO MANY deals

I've been with Starla for 12 years, and neither of us can count the vehicles I've had since then....

Doesn't have to be car related even!  My dad just scored a 1964 Oldsmobile Holiday. Got it for $1000. Guy was sick of working on it. (didn't run when he bought it).
New gas tank, new gas lines, new brakes all around. runs freaking MINT. Pretty sure that's his deal of the last few years.

What’s something you like to do the old-fashioned way?

For me, It's definitely washing/waxing the car. I LOVE sitting outside with a soap bucket, wash-mitt, and a hose.  Have some tunes on in the background. There's something very therapeutic about it to me. And the satisfaction you get after it's all done. just like daaaaaaaaaaaaaaammnnnn :)

What’s the best single day on the calendar?

think Ill say Christmas. zero religious meaning. but family tradition is strong. always a good time.

non calendar...theres a day every spring, its not the same every year.  where snow has melted, leaves are budding, and its warm enough for a tshirt and drive your car around with windows down. and the sun is still out once I get  home and relaxed. thats actually my favorite DAY.

i still get excited for last day of school too. Even though im a grownup, and still work. stress levels drop dramatically that day.

havent read an entire book in years.  there was a time, i would read all the time. really into scifi. (thus that story where my aunt gave me L ROn Hubbard books, and one was the scientology nonsense.

the ONLY series I Read. was from Piers Anthony. It was a scifi spin on Roman style mythology. (old gods still active as humans) "incarnations of immortality. they were really cool.

8 books. each one human incarnation of one of the gods. I never read the last 2. think I might.  :) War, Death, Time, Fate, evil...mother earth etc.

"bearing an Hourglass" was about the incarnation of time. and is my favorite book.

Digital Fortress is up there for me for single books (Dan Brown) REALLY fun read if you're into nerdy thrillers.

Series: Odd Thomas series by Dean Koontz. This is what sucked me into becoming a big Dean Koontz fan. His writing style is amazing, draws you in and keeps you there!

I consider "interesting" as new experience, and different from me.

Answer Progreso, Mexico. Seriously poor town. the Cruise ship rolls in, escorted by military attack jet boat.. Go  through their fence, armed guards dogs. tanks.

get on a rickety bus to town. It goes by schools that are in session, that are solid cement, and barred up. but the kids are smiling as they enter, and in uniform. Were accosted by mexican travel salesman on the bus. Walk through a straw market. In the back of every store there are american drugs, that are free of beauracracy we have here, and well below 1/10 the price. got Panhandled by a dude with no legs, who was a marvelous flamenco guitar player. (he wouldnt let me play it lol) we buy a package for free beer for 2 hrs. cost 20 bucks each. and sat on the beach, then forgot about life.

Couldn't get much different for me. Learned a lot that day.

Special mention to Rural montana. where the ranchers showed up on horses, with rifles on their backs, and a pair of yamaha rhinos carrying supplies, they were moving cattle south out of the mountains. Rhinos needed gas. Cool perspective change for me.

Where is the most interesting place you’ve been?

I'm with you. For me it has to be Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico.
My ex-wife. Her family hosted foreign exchange students for years. One of the last ones they had was a girl who was from there. Her family invited all of us down there(They were a wealthier family). So we went down and stayed with them. Their house was huge and ridiculously nice. Literally blocks from them however was just dumpsville. I remember distinctly them driving us both to and from the airport in Mazatlan and the areas we had to drive through were just depressing. One of my best memories from it was I remember bartering for this fake rolex watch with this guy while we were watching this outdoor concert. The guy wanted the equivalent of think it was $40 for it. I'm like come on dude. you can make $20 right now or I'll just walk away. he came down to $30 and was like naw, and started walking away. he offered it down to $20 for me. and I turned him down again. Got him to throw in a new band with it as well

The food. That's what I definitely remember too. I remember going to this little restaurant at night. Flies flying all over and thinking, this is the jankiest place I've ever been to. Then you eat the taco and you're just like  :nana: fukyes.
Or breakfast, stopping on the street at a little taco-stand and having some amazing breakfast tacos. I remember asking our foreign exchange student what kind of taco I ordered ( after I ate). I remember her distinctly answering.. " I don't know how to say..." and points to head. was random meat bits from a cows head  was like .. ::) but it tasted good so I kept eating

yep all that! ^^^

bartering. Old man in market listening to our conversation. musst have heard me call my sons name. like a ninja, he ties a bracelet on his arm. AIdan was terrified! LOL i look down. "Uhh, you spelled it wrong, take it off" he wanted 4 dollars. tried to keep selling it. down to a dollar.

not my comfort zone. for sure.

My first marriage?

Thinking about it, it's funny, small-town and what not.. Just a lot of fish out there in the sea. you sort of get tunnel vision. Not to say she wasn't great! Lot of good memories still. But all and all, I'm definitely much happier where I am now :)

Which of your scars has the best story behind it?
Title: Re: Learning more about us
Post by: Hefe on March 14, 2017, 08:43:22 AM
I have a big emotional scar ... it started with Randy saying.. "Hefe... check out this ball washer"....

but for ACTUAL scars... the one on my wrist is barely noticeable anymore, but it was my whole right arm burned to a black crisp..
I grabbed a cup of coffee when I was like 3.. (Coffee in the 70's was percolated, and CRAZY hot).. I was burned really bad and mom said when they pulled off the bandages, it was all black and just peeled off..
44 years later, you can hardly see it.

I also have a small scar on my forehead from hitting a clothesline pole with a double edge axe when I was about 8-10... lol
serious cartoon shit there!
boing... thud... cry..

 boing.... thud.... cry... did that with a bb gun.
had a paper target on a railroad tie corner fence post. Shot the target. Nailed it. watched the bb come back directly for me. hit me right in the little dimple of your neck by your chest.

My scar is the one on my arm by my bicep. I have the photos somewhere. It was the summer after my senior year in high school and my bro and I wanted to plan one last big paintball game before college started for me. So we planned the weekend out to get outside in the back woods and build some more tree forts. I was working at Pamida at the time (A retail shop similar to Walmart/ owned by Shopko) and they had  a small hunting section. In there was these metal screw in spikes for trees.

we made the decision to buy a bunch of these and go out to replace all of our steps (2x4's nailed to the trees) with these because they'd make it easier to climb with all our paintball gear on. So, we're out in the woods, My brother and I. He was a couple hundred yards away working on another tree stand. I climbed up my tree and started from the top and started replacing steps with the spikes. Starting at the top so I could find good hand placement while carrying things up (mimic holding my gun).
As I was screwing in my first spike. the board/step I was standing on, the nails pulled out of the tree and I started falling. Quick thinking. I put my hands up so they wouldn't scrape the tree on the way down (15' or so..). I fell down and hit the ground, I had grazed my left arm and it stung pretty bad. looked at it and was a big old scrape on it?
All of a sudden I started feeling my right arm sting a bit. I put my left hand on it just to be like... "owww" and I got this feeling of warm raw chicken.. the f? I look over and I'm holding my muscle in my arm O____O
thinking holy fuk. I yell "RYAN... GET OVER HERE" he comes sprinting over.. by this time I have my arm already wrapped up in my t-shirt and we start running back to my parents (about half mile from home). we get home and I'm on the porch and tell my mom, I think I need to go to the doctor.. she says.. "why..? Lets see it"
I'll never forget her face. Almost queasy/sick look. She yells for my dad and we bust outta there.  Long story short. 20some stitches inside and 40some stitches outside :)

LOL maggy. and LOL at BB gun ricochets! My son learned that one Saturday LOL

ouch RANDI

As for scars...I have a fun one above my eye. hidden by bushy old man eyebrows.

I was in Preschool out in cali. It was the VERY last day. I would start Kindergarten the next fall. AND My uncle was flying into town that afternoon, which meant I got to see my uncle, BUT also go to the airport. Which I STILL get excited about as a grown ass man.... lol  PLUS we were leaving to drive to Iowa the next Monday. (I know, go ahead and hate, but I loved driving across country, and love the country) so I was 5 and amped up!!! bouncin off the walls excited..

There was a tree stump in the back next to the chainlink fence(had privacy slats in it so couldnt see out), that I was climbing up on every 5 minutes to see if Mom was here yet. THEN, I See a Bright Orange VW Kharmann Ghia come into the parking lot. me...jumping around on the stump. flippin out. Back foot misses the stump... I fall forward, shins scraping the log. As Im falling I realize... Not moms Ghia! Had wrong wheels dammit   :( I felt a hard sting above my eye. and then the world turned red, like a movie. Caught my eyebrow on the safety wire they use to strap the chain link to the post.

After that. all I remember. going into the ER. Dr. Looking and gasping. "needs stitches" then I remember syringe, and needle hitting my face. Then the ceiling lights going by as I'm on the gurney, again like a movie. Then I look up, see the Doc with needle and thread. and the needle hits my forehead. That pain was out of this world. sharp...murderous. I Passed out. next thing I know, Im gettin a mcdonalds milkshake

Didnt get to see my uncle, or airplanes.

funny though... That pain, felt EXACTLY like a wasp sting I got on temple 20  yrs later. hoooooly pain batman!

What’s the most illegal thing you’ve done?

For me, it was eons ago.. 13 years ago my ex-wifes youth leader from their church was part of something bigger. A member of their church had purchased a large piece of land in Canada north of Thunder Bay in logging territory. It was an old resort (cabins) that had burnt down in a fire. It took down all of the cabins except the main lodge. He got it at a good price and had plans of turning it into a youth retreat. So this guy then asks the youth pastor if there's anyone part of the church that wants to be a part of making it new. If they help, they'd get a piece of the profits of said youth retreat. I'm in. It was over the summer and I could spare a few weeks of work going up there and helping out!

So, girlfriend and myself go up there following a 12 person van + enclosed trailer. This is where things start to go wrong. So.. We get to the border and van makes it through no issues. I get to the border window guy asks me what my business is going to be in Canada. Tell them: hey, going up to start cleanup on this old land that this church bought. Gonna build some stuff etc. This is where things go wrong. They look through my car see my drills, saws, tool belt, etc. They tell me to pull the car over and we need to go inside. They then pull the van over (which had already made it past check point) and have them pull over also. We got detained for 7 hours while they asked the youth leader a million questions. They ended up getting the address for the place and told us we could proceed across but we could not work (since we had no workers visa’s even though our time was “donated”). So, we get up there. We take 2 days off at which point it’s like fk this.. we’re 5 hours down this logging road, there’s no way they are going to come check on us. Fast forward 3 weeks. Time for the GF and I to pack it up and head home. We make it across the border and get home. Youth leader still up there for another few months. He finally makes it home (much earlier than anticipated). And he calls a meeting at his place. Well, long story short, they ended up sending some police to the area we were working and caught the people who stayed still working (as we intended lol). He got a letter from the Canadian authorities that we were to not cross into Canada for a year..

TL;DR:
Was kicked out of Canada for one year for working. They said we were taking jobs away from Canadians. haha

I first had an interest in computers in 1982, my dad bought me a commodore Vic20, turned out I was good with it.. learned BASIC pretty well.. wrote some small programs, etc....

lost interest for a while (Drugs, foster care, life... marriage.. jobs...)

I was working as a Satellite dish installer, and wanted to branch out on my own.
my buddy Ken wanted to "Computer Repair", so I rented this store in 2000 for my Dish business (I knew I could pay the rent)
the deal for him was .. no rent, just spilt the profits with me 50/50
answer my phones while I'm out installing Dishes
and he can run his computer store... easy peasy

well... he was just "" ok at it... and a bit lazy
after a year or so of not making much money, he decided to move on..
his cousin Nick needed work, so I convinced him to move here and help out
Nick was MUCH better with computers... (Super introverted)
no good at sales, or dealing with customers, but good with computers

Nick eventually had to move on, the Satellite stuff dwindled away
in 2007, Starla needed a place to cut hair, so I shrunk my store, Let Nick go, and moved Starla in
the rest is history

Why did you decide to do the work you are doing now?

Similar to heferlumps, I was always into computers. I remember when I was 8 and our summer baby sitter's son (who was big into computers) gave us his old 3.1 windows machine because he had upgraded. I got to play around with it. I remember when I finally found BASIC and how to get in there. And then when my mom brought home her first laptop for work.. I don't recall the year. I think it was probably 94? was a ton of fun messing around with it.
I worked for our high school during the year doing PC repairs. It was mainly a Macintosh shop due to grants schools got from the state for apple products. So I worked on those (the old colored imacs) and then we had a few PC's to work on as well. Loved doing that. Worked during the summers too cleaning all the computers out making sure everything worked.
I went to college for an associates degree in networking and that went well. I ended up landing a full-time job at the place I did my internship. they did wireless internet which was interesting. Works similar to your household wireless router, just higher power antennas. All our stuff was on top of radio towers or water towers. I got to do office phone call troubleshooting, home installs, and tower climbs. That was a blast!!
Fast forward 2 years and getting burnt out with my old boss. He was kind of bi-polar. A family friend of mine told me a job had opened on her team and would be able to get me an interview doing information security.. 11 years later O__O

guess Ill expound a bit how I got here.. Lost my job, wal mart logistics. which I "Enjoyed" was pretty depressed, we were expecting our first kid... went through a few jobs in between.... depressing spring/summer 2003. After my son was born, Friend got me a job working for his dad. THought Id do well. but the guys all working there, drugged out, drunks. No cares. My iq easily double any of them. but he let me go seasonal.....

waltzed into this place. took the tour. it was air conditioned, working on high speed printers... hired on the spot. came in, kicked ass. but they put me on nights, that was a tough time for me. The supervisor got busted smoking pot in the parking lot. They left me in charge after a couple months. I was like  you sure....? during that time, we doubled our number of Kodak printers. And terminated our 24hr contract of xerox equipment. so we had 6 machines that when they died.... they DIED lose the whole night. enter Peels. LOL got to where I could yank those things apart in minutes. jerry rig em back together long enough until the tech could work on them. they were absolute crap. then they bought continuous machines, with NO contract. I found out later, only because I was here and would fix them. that was the years I worked SOOO much.  LOL

2006, we bought a kodak Nexpress. mega high tech Digital color printer the size of a bus.  Sent me to New York for training. They tried to build a "photobook" business. Just like shutterfly. I'd come in every morning and print a bunch. that would be waiting in a queue from people online the night before. their idea was a bit early. and they did not pursue it. Shutterfly now runs up by you, Rando, and consider working there lol it was during those years My raptor buddies were beneficial. that machine was SLLLLOW. and took forever to warm up. Did the most goofing off then lol

Eventually got rid of that machine, SOOOO expensive to operate. In 2010 they bought the Xerox iteration of that platform, i was in programming at the time..  Its way more suited to our lower quality higher volume stuff. I had assumed when we got it, I would go to training, theres a ton of maintenance and repairs you need to know to stay running. But the boss of graphic arts and programming took himself, selfishly. while he was gone, I made a 50$ bet id still end up running it. 2 weeks after he came back, he could not figure out how to pull variable sheets from different  drawers. think book, then book cover.... i came over, figured it out. won my bet.  Day 3, during our HUGE company merger, I had to tear apart a color unit, completely untrained. been here ever since.  Shutterfly has 24 of these "IGen" machines.

we have a bunch of high speed presses. and 3 new roll fed color digital presses(we were the first to get them) and they ferk up all the time. SO along with my regular work, i re do their work... still at it.

do you have anything that youre inexplicably and uncontrollably afraid of?

Title: Re: Learning more about us

not really... all my fears are pretty solid
Title: Re: Learning more about us
Post by: Peelz on March 30, 2017, 10:37:07 AM
not really... all my fears are pretty solid

I guess the bigger question i was after. irrational fear. anything like, that is just inside you, that you cant do anything about?

me:

It's thunderstorms, but only certain ones. But if its an afternoon cyclonic storm... im junk. round the 2000 mark, I rode a tornado out in a bathtub, then another on the roadside, and watched a jonboat fly away in front of me...  I then went through a "phase" where I could barely function, if even the SLIGHTEST spring storm was on its way.

I'm now "better" after unending research, but I still freeze up, if i'm surprised by one. IE: haven't seen radar, and I hear thunder outside especially if its night. and man, If I have no access to internet, I'm pacing, looking outside, or going outside to see conditions. drives my wife nuts. she just sitting there chillin. we have no basement in our house. I'm pulling stuff out our closet so we can get in it lol. Or planning to drive to moms(real smart) Im working on it, but its in my subconscious.

other stuff:

spiders.
Volcanic, meteoric events or Humans creating nuclear winter, ruining civilization.  but :help:
I also Cant go outside at night for a little while after watching "I Am Legend" watched it last night.

My dad, his fear of snakes was hilarious. Riding the mower, sees a big one next to him. JUMPS off the other side, mower still going, hits the fence post.

feel like I covered it.

grew up in two places, really. Both special to me.

Silicon Valley, human diversity and understanding, and technology. weather!

Southeast Iowa, slow pace, simple living.  but NOT weather.

My roots are in the former, but my branches are the latter. Actually feel lucky in this respect.

Agreed, grew up in the country. The biggest part of me wants this for Kelvin. The feeling of "freedom" and openness. However, I also want him to have a good education in a place that's diverse in culture also.. Something that's missing in rural Mn. :)
You nailed it peelz, "My roots are in the former, but my branches are the latter". I like that a lot. Living in the city has changed a lot of my perspective. :)

not sure how "" white your areas are... but Diversity is not something we've ever had a discussion about in my world...

we have a predominately white area in my immediate circle.. like literally in this town....
3 miles away very large Laotian community (they even have their own dedicated church service... I'd like to see that... Lutheran Laotian service... that'd be interesting)
and 10 miles away VERY VERY black.. very depressed area... pretty bad...(took Peels there).. (and 40 miles away in Flint)
15 miles away, nicer black communities... thriving small businesses... churches... etc..
and Michigan has a very large Muslim population one of the highest in the nation, ....Hamtramck (I believe) is the largest Arab population .. Arab's actually a majority there...

so... "" Diversity seems to me to be a more political trigger word these days...
to most mid/southern Michiganders... it's just normal...
I guess I see Diversity in race/color/religion as a normal thing....
even more important to me..... Diversity of opinions... it makes us evaluate our own views, and see other opinions....
being exposed to other cultures is great (and Normal in this country)... but learning how to think for yourself... that is what makes us great

theses jackass college people protesting (rioting) every speaker that doesn't agree with their views... all the while preaching tolerance and diversity ... puhleezeeee
FERK all that "group think" bullshit!
if THAT is what diversity means.. I'll pass

Goes two ways in that retrospect. I don't agree with what their doing but  it isn't doing anything to me other than clogging my news feed on reddit

I want for Kelvin what I haven't been able to experience up until my last few years of living really. Where I grew up. It was all German/Swedish(heavily scandinavian decent) immigrants. I come from an area that is still highly racist and very unforgiving and unwilling to accept differences. That's how I was raised and how I thought. I married a Cuban whos dad was an exile from Cuba. Not something I was raised around, being around it more and more opened my eyes to why immigration isn't a bad thing. I want Kelvin to know and share those same virtues. :)

Around my parents place say a 20 minute circle around them. There's confederate flags all over. There was a black family that had moved into our town when I was in high school. They lived about 3 miles from my parents place. Little smaller trailer home. Was nice, and they kept it up. Had a nice wood privacy fence. Multiple times there was graffiti on it from people.. Painted swastikas, get out of here n*ggers.. etc. Lot of people still flyin a confederate flag up there too. It's a total different space.

I don't believe too many Americans think Immigration is a bad thing....
hell.. the first lady of the US is an immigrant.. and he got elected in spite of that..
the news wants everyone to blur legal immigration (or refugees) with illegal immigration...
for me... and I think for most.. it's about fiscal issues with illegal immigration..
we spend billions on them for education, healthcare, and many other subsidies
I can't believe it's about anything BUT money...
who cares if we have more brown/yellow/green people... whatever
you want to chase that merican' dream.... bring it on over... just do it right... pay taxes... and don't be a burden on our society...
there are (presumably) a lot of great people waiting to get in legally, if you try to cut in line... eff off...
we have room... we just don't have a bunch of money to support everyone's masses

crazy how little progress weve actually made as a society. Plenty of institutional racism around here. again, group mentality.

thats happened here, too. until the black families made our basketball team better, of course. Its very embarrassing. 1 mile south of town, up until the late 90's, there was a tattered old sign that said "n***ers go home"

our mayor said something out loud at a gas station about some of their kids, who go into the gas station from the park, within earshot of my wifes friend, whose kids are mixed, and on that basketball team. big ole outcry.

dont see it gettin any better any time soon.  :(

the confederate flag thing. You're free to do so(just not on public ground). But If you fly one, Just know, that I consider you a moron. Same people saying "he won, get over it" still fly a flag when they lost over a hundred years ago lol You're not displaying a heritage, you're refusing to accept a reality you don't like. doesn't work that way. you get over it first.

been thinking about flying the Union Jack on my truck, you know, because "heritage" after moving here...in history class, we were learning about civil war stuff, already taught in Cali. a classmate said "if the south woulda won wed had it made" a country song title apparently. I said, well by that token, "if england woulda won, wed had it made too, and get a break everyday for tea and scones"  :D don't say this in a room full of sheltered white kids. it will be difficult to make friends.

finally. My favorite racist experience. Obamas first election. Now, I liked the guy, but, as always- like randy and I discussed over booze, I never decide who I'm voting for until I do so. otherwise, your brain shuts down and starts changing facts to suit your pre conceived ideal.. something I always try to work on.

so it's Election day, havent voted yet. I'm working on my printer. A coworker, the building maintenance guy, whom i used to ride quads with, comes up to me "lemme guess, you voted for the n***ger?"

NOPE, But guess what, I will be now. That was the moment I decided lol Because, f**k you and everyone who thinks like you.

OK, at first I was like "stats...dafuq?" then I pictured all this stuff scrollin down the screen like it did at the end of GTA5.

-High Kill/Death ratio?
-STD's acquired via ballwasher

and most importantly.

-post count.

real:

-states visited.
-# Kids coached in soccer.
-money wasted on stupid stuff for kids
-motorcycle miles.

On a personal level, dealing with this as of late still... not in a "life is meaningless" sort of way... And I'm not worried about what happens to me when I die... because, well..... Ill be dead so F me right... but, the folks around me.... my family... when Im gone, will they be "oh, poor guy never got to do ____" or will they say "hey that guy GOT to do_____" feel pretty lucky... but also sometimes feel like I havent done $hit but waste money on toys LOL!

So, I know you guys hate it, but Ill be putting some effort into local soccer... Ive Been running into some people later, that apparently my dad and I coached back when we helped start the school program in my old town. 20 yrs ago... They say we touched their lives.. And now, the high school team(rural town of < 1000) is dominant.... I had Moms and Dads thanking me for coaching their kids last year, they started enjoying coming to games, their kids behaved... and lookin forward to it, as opposed to "i have to go to soccer....?"

not sure whats more important than leaving behind decent children, who strive for success, in any form.

so keep hating..ill keep not caring.

And race gas.. Ohman. I love the smell of race gas.

Page 8 answers:

What stat would you most like to see?
-Days of life remaining.  I seem to have gone from "live only in the moment" to "ignore today and only think about tomorrow" with the occasional flutter back to impulse a few times a year.  If I had a rough idea whether I was going to hit 90 or croak of a heart attack at 48 I'd be happier.  As it stands when I go too far into the present I feel guilt about how much money that'd be when I retire and then swing too conservative and obsess over the days wasted doing nothing at all.  Work isn't helping the whole balance thing either.

At this very moment, what is stressing you the most?
-My company is likely to fold before year end if we don't get another big contract.  While that is a bit of a stress it's more about the fact that it is putting my life on hold:  Living accommodations and relationships are dependent on this and I feel like I've been in limbo for 3 years.  That's what stressing me; feeling like I'm sitting still while others live their lives.  I am not worried about the money, I have enough to bridge the gap until I find another job, I'm just trying to figure out where my life is headed.

What is one of your favorite smells?
-A hot strong cup of tea, preferably green with jasmine but chamomile will hit the spot almost as well.  Clinique Happy perfume, reminiscent of a girl I once knew and the youth I once squandered.

Peels if you can take more positives away than negatives with coaching kids then by all means you should do it.  The sport is irrelevant because the real issue is teaching children life skills while managing the childrens' parents.  If they don't drive you away and you can spare that kind of time and patience then kudos to you for helping others in their formative years.

if more coaches had that attitude our kids would be much better off

yep. thanks MD.

While i'm sure its clear I love the sport, it isn't the sole driver here. character building through challenge is. The sport though, its a "legacy" my dad left with me. I was 5, came home and said "i want to play soccer". He learned to coach, borrowing knowledge from some friends who played. the only thing he knew about soccer was they played it in Vietnam when he was there, he said they would watch them from his ship. lol

Case in point: Last weekend. Other team was short handed, so they put on a goalkeeper from the upper skill level, one of the younger kids' siblings, 2 yrs older 2 feet taller  Fine. whatever, not fair, but we'll live. 2nd half, 2 more kids show up, so they have full plus a sub. But no... Older kid stays in....tied 2-2 at half. MY Kids complaining. My "motivational speech":  "yep not fair, but life rarely is, you have to play harder sometimes, when there's nothing you can do about it. let me take care of that" However, other coach.... HUGE c*nt, I mention it. "oh well we need the help" the win at all costs type...ugh they're 11 years old.

I saw a few light bulbs go off in their faces.... THEN... My boy dribbles past 3 players, and passes to a Little girl who was playing for the first time since she was 4, scored and they won. THAT is why I do it. If I can have just a tiny fraction of a dent on a kids development, and have them enjoy the sport I spent most of my life playing and following, and have even a microscopic sliver of influence on how its played in the future....I'll consider it worth it.

nobody?

 ???

I understand its not your favorite... And you can say that to try and validate your hate, but its not very accurate.

maybe not NFL level but... an Upper level English match nets about 500-750 k viewers. There are 380 of these a season.

International soccer...don't even try. think it was 3 BILLION watching the last world cup total. which is like 32 matches. Pretty sure it was like 200 or 300 Million watched the final alone.

compared to 100 million for the super bowl. so. by using your thinking, NOBODY likes american football.

so, again. tell me you dont like it, but don't tell lies.

You hear on the news about that giraffe that was gonna have a baby.

Quote
But just how many loyal viewers were there? Probably more than you’d expect. According to Google, April’s stream received over 232 million live views, which added up to 7.6 billion minutes of live watch-time.

232 million views. To watch a giraffe have a baby.

My point is.. People will watch anything if you give them something that has been fkd, gets stains, and falls to the ground.

Don't have much memory of my childhood, always amazes me the stark detail others can recall when all I can muster is a few still images that were mostly formed by other people telling me about what happened.  Always bothered me, makes me feel like maybe I don't have a proper understanding of why and how I came to be the person I am.

Don't have a good answer for this one as most of my material wants are effectively drowned out by my over-arching desire for financial independence, ie "FERK you" money.  Everything else material just seems fleeting to me.  Cars and toys are cool but I don't have a burning desire for any of them.

Assuming I had way more than *FERK You* money I'd probably buy an F-650 based EarthRoamer XV-HD to go camping and then just spend a year or two driving around the US checking shit out.

wait.. a real financial reason....

go back to right before youtube got huge. invest in that shit. sponsor some pages etc. Because, I was completely out in right field on that one. Knew it could be a cool, useful popular thing..but I did NOT see the individual user channel making money potential.

If you could travel back in time, where would you go?

I'd probably pick the 60's for the music and the cars :)

Watching that youtube video just posted in the BS thread though makes me understand just how small and insignficant our lifespans are in the grand scheme of things.  It makes me also realize that there are so many interesting histories that I could experience that I'd have a heck of a time picking one to experience.

Pyramids..
red sea parting
hellfire and brimstone from the sky
the whole Jeebus thing...
the first time man made fire to cook their meat-go back and high five em.

If you were arrested with no explanation, what would your friends and family assume you had done?

I think they'd assume I went down for one of the following. Embezzling money from my company (computer hacking). Pirating movies. Or something bitcoin/black market related

What motivates you to get up in the morning?

With Nicole being a stay at home mom. There's a lot of dependency on me being able to work and bring in a pay check. If I don't. Welp. That makes things just a little bit more difficult. :)
I enjoy being able to do that for our family even though some days may be more difficult to get out of bed than others :)

A sense of responsibility, don't know who instilled it in me and I don't know who I think I'm answering to besides some vague boss/employer entity.  I have no time clock and have been on salary ever since leaving college.  In the grand scheme I've convinced myself that my integrity is on the line each day and that it's important not to compromise it.  I know it's not because I'm going to make $XXX each day.

MD

I am the same. I try harder these days not to "stress" about it though.

I always feel if I do well, my company does well, and vice versa. (the vice versa in this statement is little less, due to new corporate structure) But I still feel that way and operate on that wavelength. 500 people indirectly rely on me, and I , on them.
