Title: Unstable, should I do Wheel Spacers?
Post by: SUNNY1881 on June 17, 2008, 11:22:04 AM
Ok so I've had my bike 6 weeks now and finally got out this weekend to ride, I know I know but I have two kids, so I just barely got out this weekend. But anyways I was a lil unstable at times getting pushed around side to side when weaving in and out on some trails and also when I was just riding fast in fifth and sixed gear going straight in open river bottom. Would wheel spacers help get my tires out further for better stability? I dont have a lot of money and Im not looking to drop a lot of money into my bike with aftermarket stuff, just lil things here and there to make the bike a lil easier and pleasurable to ride, Thanks, Sunny!
Title: What about these?

I know this is a cheap alternative, but Im all about cheap if it works. Are these okay to do or will this cause future issues? Please take a look.

links don't work. BUt I am pretty sure you are rferring to the extended studs. WHich I think are OK if you do not ride too hard, they put alot of stress on your hubs and lugs. I am getting some for the dunes for the rear only for my 660.

wheel spacers are a big no no if you do jumps over lets say 10ft. if you just trail ride i would get them.

The links work on the other site. But oh well, yeah im talking about stud extender's. Im just a basic rider, no jumping or anything, just trail ride and hill climb. Will these put a lot of stress on the stock studs and possibly snap them?  :help:

What's best front and rear for more stability or just rear or just front?

fronts will make your steering geometry change and be very jumpy, I would not recommend them on the front. It is too much wear for the components up there, for me, at least. Adding them to the rear will help to start sliding sooner instead of biting, it also effectively lowers your center of gravity. For the front, look into the "diamondj" suspension widener kit. They are all over ebay as well. It extends your a-arm and shcok mounte out 2.5 inches. It is a cheap alternative to new arms, and you don't need to buy shocks.

cant go wrong having the rear wider than the front. never do the other way around. ITP makes some wheels that have an offset that will give you 2 inches on each side on the front also.

Just curious, how do you get a pic in the body of your reply's? I.E. like your pic of bike sitting in the dunes?

I have ITP wheels that widen the front 2 inches, and they were only $20.
I wouldnt get spacers, maybe hubs..

To get the pic you just put an image code in your signature..

I have been using magic Racing billit wheel spacers for two years in Baja with 0 problems. 1" on each side in the front and 2" on each side in the rear. The total cost was 180$. my son also has the same setup. We are not jumpers but the terrain in very rocky and rough. These are solid vs stud extenders. I know some are for these and some are not but for us they work. My .02.

I own G-Force spacers, and have been pleased with them. I have a G-Force axle sitting in my garage I need to put on. The spacers did make a difference in the way my ride handled.

What wheels are they? Model? $20 dollars, where? Do they make them for the rear also?

Get them at rocky mountain atv.   I got them on the front accidentally when i bought front sand tires. they are much wider. My rears are not, thus I need the spacers. offset will be stated as  "5.0+3.0" or 6.0 +2.0 etc.

Here are the links again, they should work now:

Take a look, I think I'll be fine I'm just a basic rider having fun, no jumping or racing or anything to serious!

Thanks guys, Sunny!

I think you would be fine, unless you are a giant sasquatch lookin mofo. And you're not doing mx jumps any time soon. And I still think putting them on the front is not such a good idea. But the ones in your link are only 1.5 inch, so not so bad. Let us know what you think if you get them. And...you're on a 350 not a big bore. good luck.

Alex, have'nt we had this conversation before?  maybe another site?  :grin_nod:

my sand tires don't match. my fronts are 2 inches further offset, I did not like it for the sand at all, could not slide or get any good sidehill roost shots. Reare tires just dig in. Probably not as bad on hard ground.
