Title: 91 chevy standard cab short box not 56k friendly
Post by: Kamakazi on January 08, 2009, 02:27:19 PM
well ive been working on this for a while, i was inspired while talking to uncle beaner one day, and decided to refresh my truck a little.  i rebuilt a 350 to 355, comp cams rv cam, kb flat top 9.5:1 pistons, eagle crank and rods, and rebuilt the heads.  ceramic 1-5/8 headers with a 3"flowmaster system and a 70 series muffler with custom welded mandrel bent y-pipe.ive replaced all u-joints and all front end parts.  stripped and painted the frame and all of the brake/tranny lines.  it is a tbi setup with an edelbrock tbi maniflod.  since im hoping to aproaching 300hp  ive bought an aftermarket fuel pump and a fuel regulator to get to 18psi fuel pressure.  im sure there are lots im leaving out but here are some pics.

i decided to go with 5.7 tbi injectors.  @18 psi i should have enough fuel to feed the beast.  i didnt want to go with a tune at first unless i need it, but if/when i do ill get a 56mm tb bore and run a programmer.  i have enough guages going into the truck to rival a nasa space shuttle, i should see quickly if i have fuel troubles of not.  thanks for the link though, ill check them out.

Nice work under the hood. The braided hoses and conduit clean it up nicely.

lol, it took me 2 nights to get the pump off, dropped the pan enough to slide the pump out.  But it only took me 1 1/2 hours to bolt it all together.  i got all my electrical done, my fuel leaks fixed and my fuel pressure dialed in.  this baby is ready to start, just have to preoil and install valve covers and hook up distributor

pulled the engine, sent it to the machine shop, had 1 broken valve spring, 1 blown head gasket and the other head gasket was well on its way, replaced all of the above and currently reinstalling the accesories on the engine.  :'( not a nice experience, wasnt even done breaking in the cam  :(

well after 2 sets of head gaskets in 700 km i decided after alot of thought that i has to be my efi f'ing up, so u pulled the efi and changed the: intake and cam and am currently installing a carb, i am nearly finished the project and hope to have it running for the weekend.  my pride is hurt, but i have run out of $$$ and patience to solve the efi problem, hopefully i have this solved, on a side note it sould be arround the 350+hp mark.  the comp cams cam box had the wording "extreme" on it
